During session 1, the Pathfinder leaders asked our 8-12-year-old Pathfinders to work in groups to create a mascot that represents Harmony Center for Homeschoolers. What qualities and traits would it have? What kind of symbolism do certain images carry in our culture and around the world? What could we communicate to others about our community through a mascot? In addition to the artistic component, we asked students to compose a persuasive paragraph to support and explain their rationale.

We think you will love seeing the ideas they came up with! Here they are, in no particular order:

"The Harmony Hare"

by Josh, Elizabeth, and June

When looking for a mascot to represent Harmony, look no further than the hare. It represents peace and kindness and happiness! And a hare is cute and sweet and friendly. Everyone in Harmony is nice to each other, and hares are nice to each other. That's why we think the hare should be the mascot!

"The Friends of Harmony"

by Emme, Kelly, and Lilah

When looking for a mascot for Harmony, look no further than this cat and dog. They are cute and affectionate, and some cats and dogs can be best friends just like us. It also represents people coming together and being friends. So when looking for a mascot, please take ours into consideration.

"The Harmony Bee"

by Adelle, Ben A., & Lexie

When looking for a mascot for Harmony, look no further than the bee. Bees are very social, and they are always working together. Secondly, they all have their own roles in their community. Also, even though bees are small they are strong and can accomplish many things when they work together. Bees create harmony within their hive. Additionally, they help pollinate flowers. Without bees there wouldn't be flowers. Without flowers there wouldn't be oxygen. Bees play a very big role in nature. These are the reasons the bee should represent Harmony.

"Peace Sign"

by Lily, Ben H, and Jessica

When looking for a mascot for Harmony, look no further than the Peace Sign. Peace signs represent kindness, friendliness, love, and so much more. Peace is what makes you feel comfortable which makes you feel good. When people see the peace sign, they feel welcomed into the community. So, when looking for a mascot, please take ours into consideration.

"Harmony the Cardinal"

by Amelia, Kade, and Zeke

When looking for a mascot for Harmony, look no further than our cardinal! First of all, it's adorable. Everyone loves adorable mascots. It's also unique and appropriate, so it doesn't offend anyone. Bonus, it's kid-friendly. Lastly, the cardinal is gentle and not destructive like some other animals. So, when looking for a mascot, please take Harmony the Cardinal into consideration.

"Solar Moth"

by Ivy, Jonny, Duke, and Brooke

When looking for a mascot to represent Harmony, look no further than the solar moth. It matches the solar theme. The banana ears represent the rules. Moths go to the light, and Harmony is a bright and a happy place. When looking for a mascot, those are the reasons you should pick the solar moth to represent Harmony.
